  1. COBHAM FREE SCHOOLS

    It has been confirmed that the Cobham Free School, a primary school, will be set up at the old Cobham Police Station & section house in Portsmouth Road.  The proposal is to use temporary classrooms on the site of the demolished section house to start with, subject to planning.  The Department of Education has turned down the application for a secondary "free school" in Cobham.

  2. OLYMPIC CYCLING ROAD CLOSURES

    Travel in and around Cobham will be affected on 28th & 29th July & especially on 1st August.  See our News page for more information.

  3. ALLOTMENTS

    The CDRA Environment & Amenities Representative, Ian Clifford, has taken up the cause of increasing the number of local allotments.  It looks as though he will be successful and there will be an extra area next to the existing Leg of Mutton allotments.

Design & Character Workshop

The CDRA was represented at a workshop to discuss the character of Cobham, Downside, Stoke D'Abernon & Oxshott and to identify issues about the type & design of developments. This was one of a series of workshops run by consultants who will produce a Design and Character Supplementary Planning Document for Elmbridge Borough Council as part of the Local Development Framework. We also contributed to a follow-up session on 14th September 2011, giving feedback on the draft document.

Cedar Road Site

Cobham & Downside Residents' Association has been very active in the discussions taking place with the Council on the provision of a new library with community space, plus 14 new houses in Cedar Road. The CDRA joined with Cobham Conservation & Heritage Trust, Cobham Chamber of Commerce & Envisage on 15th April 2011 to hold an open meeting at Cobham Village Hall about the proposals for theCedar Road site. Representatives of Surrey County Council & of the developer were present to explain the plans and to hear residents' views on the future of the site.

Towards HealthWatch

The CDRA was represented at this conference on 14th June 2011 run by The Surrey LINk (Local Involvement Network). The intention is to establish HealthWatch as a new independent champion for health and social care, providing "a strong voice locally and nationally for patients, service users, carers and public" and building on the existing LINks organisations. Communities in Control

A CDRA representative attended "Communities in Control - Working Together for Your Community" on 30th March 2011, a conference hosted by Surrey Community Action and Surrey County Association of Parish & Town Councils. There was a series of expert talks on topics of interest to Cobham & Downside including Localism and the Localism Bill, Community Hubs and Street Clutter, and an opportunity to talk to other delegates.
