Police & Crime Commissioner for Surrey
On 15th November 2012, Surrey residents will elect the county's first Police and Crime Commissioner, who will be responsible for overseeing the work of Surrey Police and holding the Chief Constable to account on behalf of residents.
Community Speed Watch - Volunteers Required
The Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership is inviting residents to support their local Police by volunteering for Community Speed Watch. This is a locally driven initiative where members of the community, with the support of the police, monitor speeds of vehicles at specific locations using approved speed detection devices. Volunteers receive training, delivered by the local Neighbourhood Roads Specialist Officer, and receive support from the Neighbourhood Policing Team. If you are interested then contact the Neighbourhood Policing Team direct on 101 or the Community Safety Partnership on 01372 47 4399.
Elmbridge Council Tax Meeeting
Members of the public were invited to attend a meeting held by Elmbridge Borough Council on 23 January 2012 about how council tax is spent, key projects and achievements from this year and plans for 2012-3. Questions & answers from the session will be published on the Councils' website.
Re-Cycling Furniture & White Goods
Surrey County Council launched the Surrey Reuse Network furniture reuse campaign in January 2012. This aims to increase the amount of furniture and white goods that are reused and to divert 2,000 tonnes going into landfill. The network offers a wide range of good quality items at affordable prices. Made up of a group of six charities, the network aims to find new homes for donated furniture and kitchen appliances, as well as offering training and employment opportunities and helping local families in need. To find out how to donate or buy go to www.surreyreusenetwork.org.uk.
Thefts from Trade Vehicles
Theft from trade vehicles is a worrying trend locally. The Elmbridge Community Safety Team has a supply of SelectaDNA products adapted for use by vehicle owners to mark their tools and equipment and add signage to the vehicle in an effort to deter thieves. Owners or drivers of trade vehicles can contact the Safety Team on 01372 474399 if interested in trialling these kits. They have a few available as a trial at a cost of £25. Each kit has enough selectaDNA fluid and identification labels for 50 items of property.
‘See It, Report It, Don't Ignore It.' If you have any community safety issues then contact the Community Safety Team in confidence on 01372 474399/4398 or
