The Olympics and Cobham

Big crowds turned out in Cobham to watch and cheer the competitors in the Women's and Men's Olympic Cycling Time Trials went through our town on 1st August 2012.  As soon as the cyclists had gone through, many of the spectators hastened to the QEII Jubilee Field (formerly Recreation Ground) to see the end of the races on the Big Screen.  There was an anxious moment in the afternoon when the transmission broke down for a few minutes near the end of the men's race - all available technology in the possession of the crowd was pressed into use to track what was happenning.  The transmission came back just in time to see the medal winners finish.  Great excitment and celebrations.

(Sorry there are no photos of the cyclists or the end of the race - I was too busy cheering them, waving my flag etc.)
