Actions against the Road ClosuresThe CDRA and other local groups have been working to publicise the schedule of closures and lobbying to get it changed to reduce the impact. There's been quite a lot going on behind the scenes. Here some of the more visible things that have been happening. The CDRA received details of the planned road works on 13th August and quickly distributed details around the area, both in the form of leaflets and as posters. We also put a copy on this website for residents to print out - when last checked there had been over 1300 visits to look at it. On 17th August the Surrey Advertiser and Surrey Comet photographed a group of Cobham & Downside residents, lead by our Chairman Sue Kilpatrick, who all gathered at short notice to protest about the road closures & restrictions. Several residents, including the CDRA Chairman and our local MP, were interviewed for their articles. BBC Surrey Radio also visited the area and, in a broadcast on the 18th, they interviewed Dominic Raab MP, Councillor Dorothy Mitchell, who is Transport Portfolio holder for Elmbridge, and Ken Purssey, who is a CDRA Committee member.
The Chairman of the CCHT was interviewed about the road closures on BBC Surrey Radio on 14th September . There was a meeting between representatives of Surrey County Council and members of St Andrew's Church on Wednesday 14th September to discuss the utility company's plans to close Downside Bridge Road and the impact for the Church and others. The CDRA received an update on the situation from Surrey County Council on 22nd September in response to a letter from our Chairman. The Council Street Works Officer said they have been working closely with the Utility companies and challenging them on the methods of working and timings of the works. A summary of the latest information the Council has given us on improvements to the programme is given above. A reporter from the Leatherhead Advertiser has visited the area to see the problems and there should be an article published in late September or early October. The reporter met with our CDRA Chairman and with a CCHT representative. |

Members of St Andrew's Church objecting to the closure of Downside Bridge Road, organised a photo-shoot by the Surrey Advertiser on 13th September . The photo on the left shows two leading members of the Church, Hugh Bryant and David Taylor, at the protest. The Church will be badly affected by the roadworks.
